Jetstar has successfully reached a groundbreaking agreement with the Transport Workers Union (TWU) on pay adjustments for its cabin crew. This deal aligns with the federal government’s ‘Same Job, Same Pay’ legislation and reflects a collaborative effort to enhance pay while ensuring operational efficiency.
The discussions included Team Jetstar and Altara Cabin Crew representatives, showcasing Jetstar’s commitment to engaging with unions. These negotiations have resulted in a preliminary agreement, pending consultation, that ensures fair pay adjustments while maintaining the airline’s low-cost model. This approach also supports ongoing investments in its fleet and route expansion plans.
The agreement promises significant increases in salaries and allowances for cabin crew members. It also preserves critical benefits that were previously secured, demonstrating Jetstar’s dedication to employee welfare. These proposed changes will be backdated to November 1, ensuring cabin crew benefit promptly from the revisions.
The ‘Same Job, Same Pay’ legislation, passed in December 2023, has introduced new standards for workplace equality. Jetstar has taken proactive steps to align with this legislation while continuing positive discussions with other unions like the Flight Attendants’ Association of Australia.
Jetstar emphasized its commitment to balancing fair pay with its mission to provide affordable travel. The airline acknowledges the patience of its cabin crew as it navigates the complexities of these legislative changes. This collaborative agreement not only addresses pay equity but also ensures the airline remains competitive and ready for future growth.
Through ongoing collaboration, Jetstar is finalizing the details of this agreement to ensure compliance and fairness. This development highlights the airline’s efforts to support its workforce while maintaining its focus on customer affordability and operational excellence.
