Kenya Airways will launch direct flights from Nairobi to London-Gatwick on July 2, 2025. This expansion not only strengthens Kenya Airways’ UK presence but also addresses rising travel demand from the US and Uganda. The airline plans to operate three weekly flights using Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, providing nonstop service in about eight and a half hours. Furthermore, this route complements Kenya Airways’ current London-Heathrow service, transforming Gatwick into a strategic hub for direct Kenya-UK travel.
Meanwhile, competition among airlines on East Africa-UK routes grows stronger. British Airways is increasing its Nairobi flights and upgrading aircraft to meet the surge in tourist arrivals. Additionally, Uganda Airlines has resumed nonstop Entebbe-Gatwick flights after a long hiatus. These developments highlight how African airlines are actively improving connections to Western markets.
Kenya Airways aims to attract both connecting and direct passengers by expanding beyond Heathrow. Consequently, Gatwick offers access to travelers from southern England and areas underserved by Heathrow. This strategy aligns with Kenya Airways’ goals to optimize fleet use and grow long-haul routes. As a result, travelers will enjoy more options, better prices, and easier access to East Africa’s attractions.
Moreover, the increase in competition and flights between Africa and the UK fuels tourism growth and strengthens economic ties. Therefore, Kenya Airways’ new Gatwick service reflects a rapidly evolving market that provides passengers with more choices and improved service.
