KLM Adjusts Amsterdam-Minneapolis Winter Service for Better Travel Flow

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will suspend its Amsterdam to Minneapolis route during the winter season, adjusting to seasonal travel patterns. This change, effective from November 2025 to March 2026, reflects the airline’s strategy to better align with fluctuating passenger demand.

The route typically operates using KLM’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, a highly efficient aircraft that accommodates 275 passengers in four classes. This aircraft is central to KLM’s long-haul fleet, providing both comfort and reliability. Although the airline has removed this winter route from its schedule, it has not disclosed the specific reasons behind this decision.

Nevertheless, KLM will continue operating the Amsterdam–Minneapolis route for the summer 2025 season. Flights resumed on March 30 and will continue through October. As the season progresses, flight frequencies will gradually decrease, but operations are expected to restart in March 2026, following the winter pause.

At the same time, Delta Air Lines will maintain its year-round service between Amsterdam and Minneapolis. Delta uses a mix of Airbus A350-900, A330-300, and A330neo aircraft for this route. From July to October 2025, Delta will operate 93 flights per month. After October, the airline plans to reduce the number of flights to 60 per month, substituting the A350-900 with the A330neo and A330-300 for the winter period.

Moreover, KLM’s decision to suspend the winter flights highlights a growing trend in the airline industry, where carriers adapt their services based on market demands. While KLM adjusts its schedule, travelers can still rely on Delta for consistent service throughout the year. KLM’s return to the route in spring 2026 will offer passengers even more travel options for transatlantic flights.
