KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has proudly commenced commercial flights with its first Airbus A321neo aircraft. This marks a significant milestone for KLM, as the aircraft took its inaugural journey between Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and Copenhagen, Denmark.

Inaugural Flight Details for KLM’s A321neo

The KLM A321neo, registered as PH-AXA, made its debut flight on September 16. It flew from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) to Copenhagen Airport (CPH) in the early morning hours. Expanding Horizons: New Destinations for KLM’s A321neo

After its first flight, the A321neo continued its journey, heading to Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). It departed AMS at 13:04 and was still airborne at the time of reporting. Previously, flights under the code KL1777 between AMS and BER with a Boeing 737-800 typically lasted around 50 minutes.

In the coming days, the A321neo will operate additional flights, including routes to Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN). KLM also plans for the aircraft to serve Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport (CDG), Prague Václav Havel Airport (PRG), and Vienna Airport (VIE) shortly. In November, the A321neo will expand its network to Manchester Airport (MAN), Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD), and London Heathrow Airport (LHR).

KLM’s Fleet Renewal Strategy

KLM is in the midst of a fleet renewal process to modernize its single-aisle jet fleet. The airline is replacing its Boeing 737-800s with more fuel-efficient A320neo and A321neo aircraft. This change aims to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce noise emissions. Additionally, KLM’s regional subsidiary, KLM Cityhopper, will continue operating its Embraer E195-E2s alongside existing E175 and E190 aircraft.
