Hawaiian Airlines will soon discontinue its direct flight between Austin and Honolulu. This marks another shift in the airline’s evolving route network following its merger with Alaska Airlines. The popular non-stop route, operating since 2021, has carried over 230,000 passengers between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu.
The decision to end the Austin-Honolulu flights comes as Hawaiian Airlines begins integrating its services with Alaska Airlines. This change follows other recent announcements, including the cancellation of the Maui-San Diego route. Hawaiian Airlines aims to streamline its operations, offering passengers more destinations and connections while adjusting its network.
Hawaiian Airlines utilizes an Airbus A330-200 for the Austin-Honolulu route. However, with the reorganization of its network, the airline plans to redeploy this widebody aircraft to other routes. As a result, the direct connection between Austin and Honolulu will end in March 2025.
While this route may be eliminated, passengers flying between Austin and Honolulu can still access flights through other airlines. Several domestic carriers operating in Austin will offer connecting services. Travelers can also book connecting flights through Alaska Airlines, with options available via Seattle or San Diego.
This announcement is part of a broader reshuffling of Hawaiian Airlines’ network, driven by the recent merger with Alaska Airlines. The merger also impacts other Hawaiian routes, such as the Maui-San Diego flights, which Alaska Airlines will take over starting in June 2025. These changes reflect the evolving strategies of both airlines as they align their operations.
Following the merger, Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines plan to integrate their frequent flyer programs. Despite these changes, both airlines will maintain separate identities. The next year will likely bring further updates as they continue to refine their business models.
