LATAM Airlines Breaks New Ground in Sustainability with a Huge Recycling Milestone

LATAM Airlines made a major step toward sustainability in 2024 by recycling 280 tons of waste from domestic flights. This is part of the airline’s “Recycle Your Journey” initiative, which helps reduce waste sent to landfills. LATAM Airlines focuses on recycling items like PET plastic bottles and Tetra Pak containers, making a big difference in its environmental impact.

The airline’s flight crews and airport teams work closely to separate waste properly. This teamwork ensures that recyclable materials are sent to specialized companies for proper recycling. Thanks to this initiative, LATAM saw a 64% increase in waste recycling compared to the previous year.

In just two years, LATAM Airlines has recycled 450 tons of waste. This shows the airline’s growing commitment to sustainability. LATAM is also improving its environmental practices in lounges, like at the Santiago de Chile lounge, where 76% of waste is recycled, including composting organic food waste.

LATAM Airlines continues to explore new ways to recycle. They are testing programs to separate and recycle items such as bamboo cutlery and cardboard cups. These steps further highlight the airline’s focus on sustainability.

LATAM’s dedication to reducing its environmental footprint is evident in its actions. The airline’s ongoing efforts set a positive example in the industry, proving that sustainability can be integrated into every part of its operations.
