LATAM Leads the Way in Sustainable Aviation

LATAM Airlines Group has become the most sustainable airline in the Americas and ranks fifth globally, according to the 2024 Corporate Sustainability Assessment by S&P Global. This achievement shows LATAM’s strong commitment to sustainability and leadership in environmental, social, and economic areas. With a score of 67, LATAM has outperformed many top global airlines.

LATAM focuses on three key areas to drive sustainability: climate action, the circular economy, and community engagement. For example, the airline plans to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. To meet this goal, LATAM has already offset more than 1.9 million tons of CO2. Additionally, it has worked to preserve important ecosystems, like the flooded savannas in Colombia, which help capture carbon.

Furthermore, LATAM has made significant strides in waste management. The airline has reduced single-use plastics by 97%, eliminating over 1,700 tons of waste. It also aims to reach zero landfill waste by 2027. LATAM’s “Solidarity Plane” initiative has helped communities by offering free flights and partnering with over 50 organizations across South America.

In addition to its environmental efforts, LATAM’s business performance is strong. The airline has reduced its debt, improved its liquidity, and expanded its passenger services. Looking ahead, LATAM plans to increase its use of renewable energy and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). It will also grow its carbon offset programs, setting an example for others in the industry.
