LATAM Pulls the Plug on Lima–Orlando Flights — All Because of One Pricey New Fee

LATAM Airlines Peru has halted its upcoming Lima–Orlando route after new airport fees disrupted operations. The Unified Airport Usage Fee (TUUA), introduced at Lima’s Jorge Chávez International Airport in late October 2025, has significantly reshaped Peru’s aviation market. The additional $12.67 per passenger has pushed airlines to reassess costs and adjust their strategic plans.

Moreover, this decision has raised growing concerns about Peru’s international connectivity and tourism stability. LATAM Airlines Peru, which depends heavily on connecting passengers, now faces reduced competitiveness compared to Bogotá and Panama City. These rival hubs, which avoid similar fees, are quickly becoming more attractive transit points across Latin America. Therefore, Lima risks losing its long-held position as a key aviation gateway.

Furthermore, the fee’s effects stretch beyond aviation. The hospitality industry in Lima, including hotels, restaurants, and tour operators, has started feeling the pinch. As flight options shrink, fewer American tourists are entering Peru through Lima. Consequently, this shift threatens the flow of travelers to famous destinations like Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca, and the Amazon rainforest. The result is a potential slowdown for businesses that depend on international tourism.

However, not all the outcomes are negative. Other regional airports, such as those in Cusco and Arequipa, could benefit from this transformation. As airlines reroute traffic, these destinations may experience higher passenger volumes. Gradually, the redistribution of routes could diversify Peru’s tourism footprint and strengthen its regional travel network.

Ultimately, travelers must stay updated on fare changes and new flight structures. LATAM Airlines Peru continues adjusting its network to protect profitability while maintaining traveler confidence. Meanwhile, the Peruvian government must reconsider the TUUA policy if it hopes to restore Lima’s global connectivity and travel appeal.
