Lufthansa Delays New Frankfurt First Class Check-In Until 2025

Lufthansa has delayed the opening of its new first-class check-in area at Frankfurt Airport. Initially, the project was set for fall 2024 but has now been pushed back to summer 2025. The delay is due to the complexity of technical renovations, which have taken longer than expected. Both Lufthansa and Frankfurt Airport underestimated the challenge. However, the airline confirms that progress is ongoing, and the new space will soon offer a better experience for travelers.

The renovation at Frankfurt Airport, which is Lufthansa’s hub, is part of a broader plan to enhance services for premium passengers. The new check-in area is designed for first-class flyers and those with Senator status in the Lufthansa Group’s loyalty programs. For now, travelers use rebranded business-class check-in desks, but the upgraded area will provide more luxurious amenities. These will include service bars, repacking stations, and a private waiting space.

Lufthansa aims to match the high standards seen at other premium airports like Dubai International. The airline plans to offer more comfort and privacy during the check-in process. Though Lufthansa already operates a dedicated First Class Terminal in Frankfurt, this new space will provide additional services for elite travelers. For those unfamiliar with the First Class Terminal, this new option could become a preferred choice, especially for passengers flying within the Lufthansa Group or Star Alliance.

As the renovation progresses, Lufthansa remains focused on completing the project by the summer 2025 deadline. With the upgraded check-in area, the airline aims to deliver a superior experience for its top-tier passengers, making the wait worthwhile. 2025?! Seriously? That’s a long wait for a new first-class check-in. Lufthansa needs to step it up. I hope the actual upgrade is worth the delay.
