Lufthansa Group has solidified its position as the top airline network at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), closing 2024 with an impressive market share. The Lufthansa Group’s airlines, including Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, and SunExpress, operated nearly 30% of all flights at BER. This dominance places the Group far ahead of its nearest competitor, which handled only 17% of flights.
Throughout 2024, Lufthansa transported 6.4 million passengers through BER, underscoring its significant role in the airport’s operations. With a Lufthansa Group aircraft departing every 15 minutes, the six airlines collectively offered up to 500 direct flights weekly to nearly 60 destinations. Eurowings, in particular, connected Berlin to 45 locations across Europe, North Africa, and the Gulf region. Additionally, Lufthansa’s global network offers travelers access to over 290 destinations worldwide through its five key hubs.
While some airlines plan to reduce operations at BER in 2025, Lufthansa continues to grow. SWISS recently launched daily non-stop flights between Berlin and Geneva, enhancing connectivity since October 2024. Meanwhile, Eurowings plans a 12% capacity increase for the upcoming summer, introducing routes to Bilbao, Corfu, Faro, and Newcastle. These expansions provide Berlin travelers with more options, contrasting with industry contraction trends.
Lufthansa’s deep connection to Berlin traces back to its founding in the city in 1926. Today, Berlin remains crucial for the Lufthansa Group, hosting all key business segments alongside Frankfurt. Around 2,000 employees work in Berlin, reflecting the city’s importance to the Group’s operations and heritage.
As Lufthansa strengthens its presence at Berlin Brandenburg Airport, it not only leads in transportation but also becomes an integral part of Berlin’s economy and culture.
