Several U.S. airlines have delayed flights to Israel indefinitely, while European carriers expand their operations. United, Delta, and American Airlines have halted services to Tel Aviv due to security concerns and escalating tensions. These delays leave travelers with limited direct flight options from the U.S. United and Delta have considered resuming flights, but the geopolitical situation keeps their plans uncertain. American Airlines has canceled flights to Israel with no plans to restart them.
In contrast, European airlines are increasing their presence in Tel Aviv. Lufthansa will start daily flights between Frankfurt and Munich to Israel in early February. Swiss International Air Lines will offer daily connections to Zurich, and Austrian Airlines will introduce daily flights to Vienna. Brussels Airlines and Eurowings will also boost their frequency to Tel Aviv to meet rising demand. This expansion aligns with the usual rise in travel to Israel during spring.
Low-cost carriers like Wizz Air and Ryanair are also resuming services to Israel. Wizz Air has restarted flights, and Ryanair plans to expand its summer schedule. These airlines will help meet the growing demand for affordable travel.
As travel activity increases this spring, Israel’s Ben-Gurion International Airport will see a surge in passengers. The airport currently handles 50,000 passengers daily, but this number will grow with more European carriers. While U.S. airlines remain cautious, European carriers seize the opportunity to strengthen their position in Israel’s aviation market.
U.S. travelers can rely on connecting flights through major European hubs like Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, and Vienna to reach Tel Aviv.
