Marriott Bonvoy and Uber have announced changes to their partnership program, effective October 14, 2024. These changes include a significant reduction in the number of Marriott Bonvoy points earned for Uber Eats orders and the introduction of new perks for Uber rides. You can find more details about the Marriott Bonvoy and Uber partnership on the Marriott website: Marriott Bonvoy and Uber.
Currently, Marriott Bonvoy members earn 6 points per dollar spent on Uber Eats orders with a minimum of $40 when delivered to a Marriott hotel. This rate doubles to 12 points per dollar when delivered elsewhere. Additionally, members earn 3x points on premium Uber rides such as UberXL, Uber Comfort, Uber SUV, and Uber Black.
Under the revised program, the earning rate for Uber Eats orders will be reduced to 1 point per dollar with no minimum order requirement. However, members will earn 2 points per dollar when ordering to Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites, or Element Hotels. The 3x earning rate for premium Uber rides will remain unchanged. A new perk is the introduction of 2x points on pre-scheduled UberX rides. For information on Uber’s ride options and pricing, you can visit the Uber website.
Another notable change is that Marriott Bonvoy members who subscribe to Uber’s monthly paid Uber One discount program will receive complimentary Marriott Silver Elite status. Marriott Silver Elite status offers benefits such as late checkout and a 10% bonus on points earned. To understand the benefits of Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status, you can refer to the Marriott Bonvoy website.
Marriott is also integrating Uber Reserve booking functionality into the Marriott Bonvoy app, making it easier for members to pre-book rides. These changes reflect a shift in the partnership’s focus towards rewarding Uber rides rather than Uber Eats orders. While some members may be disappointed by the reduced earning rate for Uber Eats, the new perks for Uber rides and the opportunity to earn Marriott Silver Elite status through Uber One may be appealing to others.
