New Routes Boost North Macedonia’s Air Travel

North Macedonia is gearing up for enhanced air connectivity in March 2025, as Flydubai, Turkish Airlines, and Wizz Air unveil new routes to its international airports in Skopje and Ohrid. This initiative stems from the government’s efforts to position North Macedonia as an attractive travel destination. Additionally, the initiative includes financial incentives for airlines, encouraging them to introduce direct flights and increase tourism.

Specifically, Flydubai will commence flights between Skopje and Dubai, a significant business hub, starting on March 30, 2025. Furthermore, Turkish Airlines will launch a new route connecting Ohrid with Istanbul, bolstering travel options between North Macedonia and Turkey. Meanwhile, Wizz Air plans to expand its services from Skopje to several cities, including Barcelona, Lyon, and Stuttgart. In addition, they will initiate flights from Ohrid to Basel-Mulhouse.

Consequently, the introduction of these new routes promises to elevate both business and leisure travel to North Macedonia. Travelers will have greater access to the country’s breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture. To further stimulate air travel, the government plans to provide subsidies to airlines operating from Skopje and Ohrid. These subsidies aim to attract more routes and increase flight frequencies, ultimately enhancing passenger traffic.

Moreover, Ohrid, a UNESCO World Heritage site, stands as a key attraction for visitors. The new flights from Turkish Airlines and Wizz Air will undoubtedly increase tourism to this scenic destination. As the government invests in air travel infrastructure, North Macedonia is poised for growth in its aviation sector. Overall, these strategic initiatives reflect a commitment to enhancing the country’s visibility on the global travel map.

The launch of new routes by Flydubai, Turkish Airlines, and Wizz Air marks a significant milestone for North Macedonia’s air travel landscape. With government support and increasing demand, North Macedonia is set to thrive as a premier travel destination.
