Now Fly Seamlessly Between the US and Canada — Thanks to One Smart Airline Alliance

American Airlines and Porter Airlines have launched a new codeshare agreement that reshapes US–Canada travel. As a result, travelers will now enjoy more seamless flight options, smoother schedules, and better cross-border convenience. This partnership creates new travel pathways while expanding both airlines’ market reach.

Consequently, American Airlines will strengthen its footprint in key Canadian cities, including Toronto, Ottawa, Halifax, and Montreal. At the same time, Porter Airlines will tap into American’s large US network, giving Canadians more direct access to top US destinations. This codeshare enables both carriers to fill network gaps while offering faster connections.

Currently, Porter serves 16 US cities. Through this agreement, it can now offer flights to even more American cities. These include business hubs and major vacation hotspots. As a result, Canadian travelers will get more choices without unnecessary layovers or delays.

Meanwhile, American Airlines will receive valuable feeder traffic from Canada into its major US hubs. These include Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami, and New York. Therefore, this helps optimize its international flight schedules while improving operational efficiency.

Additionally, the codeshare expands international access for Porter passengers. Through American’s global network, they can now reach Europe, South America, and the Caribbean more easily. With one booking, travelers will enjoy simpler transfers and shorter wait times.

Although data shows a slight decline in US–Canada flight capacity, the demand remains solid. Because of this, airlines are adapting quickly. By teaming up, American and Porter improve their competitive edge against Air Canada-United and Delta-WestJet.

Both carriers now await regulatory approval. However, once cleared, the agreement will offer more flexibility, better connectivity, and expanded travel options. Ultimately, the codeshare represents a bold step forward for North American air travel.
