Air India is enhancing its Boeing 777 fleet to improve passenger comfort on its key US and Canada routes. The airline has launched a temporary upgrade program to refresh 13 aircraft, ensuring a better travel experience while managing global supply chain issues.
The airline’s partnership with SIA Engineering Company supports this initiative. The first aircraft under this program has already reached Singapore for upgrades. These improvements include new seat covers, cushions, carpets, and curtains to align the cabin with Air India’s updated brand identity.
This refresh program prioritizes immediate comfort upgrades while the airline prepares for a full-scale retrofit. Air India has faced delays in acquiring materials, impacting its broader $400 million refurbishment plan. This temporary initiative ensures that passengers enjoy a premium experience despite these challenges.
The airline is also addressing key cabin repairs to enhance service quality. It is restoring cabin walls, fixing meal tables, and upgrading lavatories to maintain cleanliness and functionality. Additionally, it is improving galley areas to boost in-flight service efficiency. However, the interim refresh does not include changes to in-flight entertainment systems or aircraft livery.
Air India’s long-term transformation plan includes a complete overhaul of its wide-body and narrow-body fleet. The full retrofit program will modernize 67 aircraft, with 40 wide-body planes, including Boeing 777s and 787 Dreamliners, set for modifications. The airline expects the entire process to be completed by late 2025.
By focusing on passenger experience, Air India is reinforcing its position in the competitive North American market. The airline’s efforts demonstrate its commitment to offering world-class services while navigating industry-wide challenges.
