Qantas, Australia’s flagship airline, celebrates 90 years of flying across the globe. Founded in 1920 in Queensland’s outback, it now connects travelers to every corner of the world. The airline’s initial flight paved the way for a global network now spanning 36 cities in 25 countries. On April 17, Qantas commemorated this monumental achievement in aviation history.
In 1935, Qantas made history by launching Australia’s first international passenger service. A DH86 aircraft flew two travelers from Brisbane to Singapore, marking the start of the airline’s global journey. Today, that same flight takes only 8 hours aboard a modern Airbus A330. With over 273 million passengers flown, Qantas has become a leader in global aviation.
To celebrate its anniversary, Qantas opened its archives, offering a glimpse into its rich history. Rare photographs and videos showcase the airline’s growth over the years. A timeline of Qantas’ achievements in international travel is also on display. In addition, the airline unveiled three limited-edition amenity kits for Business Class passengers, featuring artwork from its extensive collection.
Qantas has always been recognized for its exceptional service, safety, and reliability. Beyond aviation, the airline supports sustainability and social causes. It continues to work on reducing its carbon footprint and funds conservation projects to protect Australia’s natural wonders, including the Great Barrier Reef and Ningaloo Reef.
