Qantas has reintroduced its Airbus A380 VH-OQH after a two-month overhaul in Dresden, Germany. As demand rises again for long-haul travel, the airline expands its global network by adding capacity through its largest aircraft. Notably, the return of this superjumbo boosts the number of active Qantas A380s to eight. Consequently, the airline strengthens its premium service on routes between Australia and major global destinations.
Following the maintenance, VH-OQH resumed flying with a trip to London Heathrow. Then, it continued to Singapore before arriving in Sydney. This schedule illustrates Qantas’ commitment to restoring full international connectivity. Moreover, the airline highlights the A380 as a key asset in long-haul operations.
During its time in Dresden, VH-OQH underwent heavy maintenance at Elbe Flugzeugwerke. Since the pandemic, airlines like Qantas rely on expert facilities to maintain aging A380s efficiently. Importantly, this overhaul reflects Qantas’ proactive strategy to keep its fleet flight-ready and competitive.
Even after 15 years in service, VH-OQH remains one of Qantas’ most valuable aircraft. It carries 485 passengers across four classes, enabling flexibility and comfort on busy international routes. Additionally, the aircraft has accumulated over 54,000 flight hours, proving its durability and reliability.
Qantas continues to deploy the A380 on routes to Los Angeles, London, Johannesburg, and Singapore. Starting August 2025, it will also serve Dallas from Sydney. This expansion demonstrates Qantas’ push to grow its U.S. market presence. At the same time, the Melbourne to Los Angeles route also sees A380 service, offering travelers more trans-Pacific choices.
Above all, Qantas reinforces its legacy through the iconic “Kangaroo Route” between Sydney and London. By maintaining aircraft like VH-OQH, Qantas ensures luxury, capacity, and global reach. As long-haul demand grows, the airline keeps positioning the A380 as a long-term pillar.
