Qatar Airways Flight QR664, with nearly 250 passengers, landed safely at Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport on December 28, 2025, after a bomb threat forced a security response. The aircraft arrived from Doha, and airport officials acted swiftly when they received a bomb threat email. Security teams thoroughly inspected the plane but found no explosives, allowing passengers and crew to disembark safely.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner was directed to an isolated parking area for a detailed search. Bomb disposal experts and sniffer dogs checked both the aircraft and luggage. After confirming the threat was a hoax, the airport cleared the plane for departure. The delay didn’t affect the overall functioning of the airport, as normal operations resumed promptly.
Although the aircraft was originally scheduled to leave at 10:15 a.m., the flight was delayed and took off at 1:07 p.m. Officials emphasized that all actions taken were for precautionary reasons and that passenger safety was the primary concern.
This incident mirrors a similar event involving Emirates Flight EK526, which also dealt with a bomb threat. In both cases, the quick and efficient security response ensured the safety of all passengers and prevented harm.
The situation highlights the importance of aviation security in responding to bomb threats. Airports and airlines must remain vigilant and prepared to handle such threats quickly to ensure the safety of passengers and to minimize disruption.
