Riyadh Air’s Big Move: Completed First Non-Commercial Flight

Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia’s new airline, has marked a key milestone by completing its first non-commercial flights. These flights used a Dreamliner from Saudia. This step is crucial for obtaining the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).

Non-Commercial Flights Mark Key Step

Today, Riyadh Air conducted two non-commercial flights, a significant step toward its 2025 commercial launch. The flights used a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner from Saudia and remained within Saudi Arabia’s airspace. The first flight departed from Riyadh Airport (RUH) and landed at Jeddah Airport (JED) after 1 hour and 16 minutes.

Meeting AOC Requirements

These flights help Riyadh Air meet its AOC requirements. The airline will continue with certification flights through November.

Building a Strong Presence

Though it started flying today, Riyadh Air has been active in building its presence. Over the past year, the airline formed partnerships with international carriers like Air China and Singapore Airlines. It also signed a sponsorship deal with Atlético de Madrid, aligning with other Middle Eastern airlines like Emirates.

Preparing for 2025 Launch

As Riyadh Air prepares for its 2025 launch, it has revealed new aircraft liveries and crew uniforms. The airline is hiring pilots and cabin crew, with 38 pilots already onboard. Riyadh Air is working with international trainers to ensure its pilots are certified. With plans to fly to over 100 destinations by 2030, the airline is ready to compete in the Middle Eastern aviation market.
