Royal Brunei Airlines launched direct flights connecting Brunei and Chennai, strengthening travel links between Borneo and southern India. This new service boosts both business and leisure travel between the regions, marking a key step for the airline to expand globally.
On November 5, 2024, Royal Brunei Airlines began its first direct route to India, linking Bandar Seri Begawan and Chennai. This marks the airline’s only destination in India. By offering a direct flight, Royal Brunei Airlines seeks to tap into India’s booming aviation market, one of the largest globally.
The airline previously connected India through charter services to other cities. Now, it focuses on Chennai, a hub for business and tourism. The flight lasts about five and a half hours. It operates three times a week: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, using a 150-seat Airbus A320N with two classes.
Royal Brunei Airlines expects the new service to attract business professionals, students, and tourists. The airline also recognizes the large Indian diaspora in Brunei, especially from Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It aims to provide direct travel options for this community. Travelers can also connect to destinations in Southeast Asia and Melbourne, Australia.
The airline partnered with Air India to offer smooth connections for travelers from major Indian cities to Chennai. This new route boosts tourism and strengthens business ties between Brunei and India.
Royal Brunei Airlines continues investing in connectivity and expanding its presence in key international markets. The new Chennai flights reflect its commitment to growing global connections.
