Ryanair Pushes for Stricter Alcohol Limits at UK Airports

Ryanair is urging UK airports to enforce stricter alcohol regulations. The airline suggests limiting passengers to just two drinks at airport bars to enhance safety for both passengers and crew. This move aims to reduce disruptive behavior, which has become a growing concern on many flights. Ryanair has recently taken legal action against unruly passengers, further highlighting the seriousness of the issue.

In one such case, Ryanair filed a lawsuit in Ireland, seeking €15,000 in damages from a disruptive passenger. This incident occurred on a flight from Dublin to Lanzarote in April of the previous year. The flight was diverted to Porto after the passenger allegedly caused the disturbance. The airline incurred several costs due to the diversion, including accommodation for over 160 passengers and six crew members. Additional expenses were related to landing and handling fees at Porto Airport, as well as Portuguese legal fees.

The airline’s call for tighter regulations follows a recent surge in incidents involving disruptive passengers. Ryanair flights have seen multiple disturbances, particularly in recent months. In one instance, a flight to Ibiza had to remove two passengers following a scuffle. Another flight to Lanzarote returned to its UK departure point after a similar incident, with police escorting the involved individuals off the plane.

These events have sparked Ryanair’s push for better alcohol control at UK airports, where many British travelers are accustomed to enjoying a drink before their flights. The airline is advocating for a shift in behavior, prioritizing passenger safety and reducing in-flight disturbances. Ryanair’s move reflects a broader concern in the aviation industry, aiming for safer and more enjoyable travel experiences for all passengers.
