Ryanair’s New Boarding Pass Rule: What You Must Know

Ryanair shakes up the boarding process this summer. The airline moves from paper boarding passes to a fully digital system. This change affects travelers preparing for summer trips. Although the rollout was initially planned for before the peak season, Ryanair delayed it, giving passengers more time to adjust.

The new system requires passengers to check in online and present a digital boarding pass via the “myRyanair” app. This starts when Ryanair releases its winter timetable later this year. For now, passengers can still print their boarding passes after checking in online. However, this option expires on November 3, 2025, when Ryanair will fully transition to digital passes.

Passengers should know that checking in at the airport may cost extra. Ryanair charges £55 for airport check-in, or £30 for flights from Spain. If passengers need a new boarding pass at the airport, they must pay a £20 fee. To avoid these charges, passengers should check in via the website or mobile app to get their digital boarding pass free of charge.

Ryanair stresses that passengers must complete the check-in process themselves. This ensures they follow safety, security, and public health regulations, including those by ICAO and the EU. It’s best for all Ryanair travelers to visit the official website and confirm they’re ready for their trip.
