Ryanair anticipates serving fewer passengers in FY26 due to ongoing Boeing aircraft delivery delays. The Irish low-cost airline expects 4 million fewer passengers than initially planned. Despite these challenges, Ryanair continues to dominate the European aviation market, consistently attracting passengers through competitive fares and strategic operations.
In Q3 FY25, Ryanair reported a significant profit surge, achieving €149 million compared to €15 million in the previous year. Revenue increased by 10%, reaching €2.96 billion, highlighting the airline’s ability to recover from previous disputes. Passenger numbers also rose, with 44.9 million travelers carried during the quarter, marking a 9% growth year-on-year.
Boeing delivery delays have caused Ryanair to adjust its future plans, forcing a reduction in its FY26 traffic outlook. The carrier has worked closely with Boeing to speed up deliveries and reduce further disruptions. Ryanair operates a total of 609 aircraft, including 172 Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 planes, but manufacturing strikes and production slowdowns have hindered delivery schedules. This has resulted in a revised FY26 forecast of 206 million passengers instead of 210 million.
Despite the delivery issues, Ryanair achieved record-breaking passenger numbers in August and operated its largest-ever summer schedule. The airline continues reallocating capacity to regions offering tax incentives and prioritizing growth-friendly policies. However, European short-haul capacity remains constrained due to factors like engine repairs, manufacturer backlogs, and airline consolidations.
Ryanair aims to maintain its competitive cost structure, leveraging fuel hedges, interest income, and compensation from delayed aircraft deliveries. The airline forecasts its FY25 profit after tax to range between €1.55 billion and €1.61 billion, remaining vigilant against external challenges such as geopolitical conflicts, air traffic control issues, and manufacturing delays. Ryanair remains confident in its ability to retain its position as a leading low-cost carrier in Europe.
