A recent incident involving Southwest Airlines forced a flight from San Jose to turn back after an engine alert shortly after takeoff. The crew detected a potential engine issue, leading them to return to the airport. The plane landed safely. None of the 67 passengers and 5 crew members were injured.
Flight 2395 left Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport at 8:15 AM, bound for Hollywood Burbank Airport. The aircraft climbed to 21,000 feet, but after about 29 minutes, the crew turned the plane back toward San Jose. The plane landed at 8:50 AM local time.
Southwest Airlines quickly rebooked passengers on the next available flight to Burbank. No injuries occurred. The airline removed the plane from service for maintenance. The crew will assess the engine issue before the aircraft can fly again.
The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, has flown with Southwest Airlines since its 2008 delivery. It will continue service until at least 2031. The airline will put the plane back in rotation for a flight from Providence to Orlando on November 14th.
