Alaska Airlines is changing air travel by expanding its Touchless ID program. As a result, three more airports will now offer facial recognition for security. Seattle, Los Angeles, and Portland are the latest cities to adopt this high-tech system. Therefore, travelers can expect quicker and safer airport experiences.
Initially tested in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., the program showed strong results. So now, Alaska Airlines will launch it in Seattle on June 26. Los Angeles will follow on July 8, and Portland will join on July 10. These dates mark a major leap in convenience for TSA PreCheck members.
Once enrolled, travelers upload their passport to their Alaska Airlines profile. Then, their digital boarding pass activates the Touchless Identity feature. Consequently, travelers skip the need for physical IDs and use only facial recognition. This process not only saves time but also reduces human error.
Moreover, Alaska Airlines created this feature to support digital-first travelers. Since long lines and ID checks slow down the process, this system streamlines every step. Even so, passengers must still carry a Real ID as backup. If the system fails, they can still move forward without delays.
Besides speed, the program increases safety. For instance, your face becomes your secure ID, reducing the chance of fraud. Meanwhile, airport staff spend less time checking documents, improving flow.
Because digital systems are the future, Alaska Airlines is setting a strong example. As more airports join, other airlines may follow. Thus, this tech may soon become the norm across the country.
