Turkish Airlines is making bold moves to strengthen its global reach. The airline plans to increase its Sydney service to daily flights by early 2026. At the same time, it is preparing for a groundbreaking nonstop journey from Istanbul to Auckland, which could set a new world record.
The airline launched flights to Sydney on November 29, 2024. Just weeks later, it confirmed plans to boost the frequency to daily by January 2026. While this target remains, adjustments may happen before the final schedule is set. Meanwhile, its Melbourne service, which started earlier, continues operating three times a week. However, no official update exists on increasing these flights.
Turkish Airlines is also pushing forward with its expansion in New Zealand. The airline plans to begin flights to Auckland via Singapore by late 2025. More ambitiously, it is working on a direct Istanbul-Auckland route using specially configured Airbus A350-1000 aircraft. If successful, this route will become the longest non-stop flight in the world, setting a new milestone in aviation.
The Sydney route, which currently includes a stop in Kuala Lumpur, spans an impressive 14,968 km. This makes it Turkish Airlines’ longest flight to date. In contrast, Melbourne flights operate via Singapore. The inaugural Sydney flight featured a Boeing 777-300ER to accommodate special guests, but the airline typically uses the Airbus A350. This aircraft, designed for premium comfort, offers 32 business class seats and 297 economy seats, ensuring a top-tier travel experience.
With these ambitious plans, Turkish Airlines is redefining long-haul travel. The airline’s rapid expansion highlights its commitment to offering passengers seamless connectivity across continents.
