Turkish Airlines has reignited its connection between Istanbul and Sulaymaniyah, restoring a vital route that strengthens regional travel. The service returned on November 2, 2025, after a suspension since April 2023. Therefore, this move reinforces Turkish Airlines’ dominant presence in Iraq and boosts travel and trade between the two nations. Moreover, the route now joins five other Iraqi destinations already linked to Istanbul, including Baghdad and Erbil, thereby expanding accessibility for passengers and businesses.
Additionally, the airline operates four weekly flights between Istanbul Airport and Sulaymaniyah International Airport. These flights run on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays, thus providing flexible travel choices for both leisure and business passengers. Furthermore, Turkish Airlines plans to increase this route to daily flights starting March 27, 2026. This upcoming expansion will not only strengthen convenience for travelers but will also support the rising demand from both leisure and business markets. Consequently, it will enhance cargo movement and create more opportunities for regional growth.
In addition, the renewed service goes far beyond basic air travel. It helps strengthen commercial, cultural, and tourism ties between Türkiye and Iraq. Sulaymaniyah, known for its heritage and economic importance, now reconnects with global markets through Turkish Airlines’ vast network. As a result, the airline’s consistent expansion strategy in Iraq highlights its focus on linking key cities and supporting economic cooperation.
Finally, the upcoming increase in flight frequency demonstrates confidence in the region’s stability and potential. Daily flights will encourage tourism, trade, and investment across both nations. Hence, Turkish Airlines continues to build bridges that connect people, cultures, and economies through efficient and reliable air connectivity. The reactivation of Sulaymaniyah flights symbolizes not only a route revival but also a renewed partnership that benefits travelers and industries alike.
