United Airlines is making a bold move to strengthen its presence in Orlando. The airline has started building a $315 million Technical Operations complex at Orlando International Airport (MCO). This major investment aims to enhance efficiency and streamline maintenance operations.
The new facility will cover 354,400 square feet and include two hangars, a warehouse, offices, and workspaces. It will accommodate six narrow-body aircraft or a mix of wide-body and narrow-body planes. Located on Tradeport Drive, the complex will replace scattered maintenance facilities, bringing over 1,000 employees under one roof.
United Airlines chose Orlando for this expansion due to its strategic location and operational advantages. The move will help the airline optimize aircraft routing, reduce ferry costs, and improve maintenance efficiency. During construction, the airline will continue operations at its existing sites.
The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) has supported this project as part of a broader development plan for the airport. The new facility will free up valuable airside-access land for future aviation growth. United Airlines’ investment will boost the region’s economy, create high-paying jobs, and solidify Orlando’s status as a key aviation hub.
Additionally, the project includes relocating United’s current warehouse and demolishing an outdated hangar from 1954. These changes will modernize the airline’s infrastructure and improve operational efficiency.
Orlando’s aviation sector continues to expand, driven by a strong talent pool and top-tier infrastructure. United Airlines’ latest development underscores its commitment to the region. The new Technical Operations complex is set to open in late 2027, marking a milestone in the airline’s long-term strategy.
