On Sunday, United Airlines flights between Chicago and Zurich were delayed due to crew issues. One flight from Zurich to Chicago stopped in Halifax to pick up a new pilot. The outbound flight from Chicago to Zurich diverted and returned to O’Hare Airport.
Flight UA12 from Zurich to Chicago had to stop in Halifax after a crew member fell ill. The flight had been delayed by 12 to 40 minutes. It was originally set to depart Zurich at 09:40 but left at 14:26. After flying for seven hours, it landed in Halifax at 16:52. United Airlines replaced the crew members before the flight continued to Chicago. The flight departed Halifax at 19:02 and landed in Chicago at 19:55, seven hours late.
Meanwhile, the outbound flight from Chicago to Zurich took off on time at 16:32. However, after four hours, the flight turned back. It was flying at an altitude of 34,700 feet when the pilot decided to return. The plane landed at Gander International Airport in Newfoundland due to a crew member’s medical issue. United Airlines rebooked passengers on a later flight to Zurich.
The return flight to Chicago arrived early on Monday morning. Passengers were rebooked on flight UA3024 to Zurich, which is expected to arrive ahead of schedule on Christmas Eve. The flight from Zurich to Chicago on December 23rd was canceled. However, the Christmas Eve flight is still on track.
