United Airlines Workers Rally at SFO—The Fight for a Better Contract Begins Now

United Airlines aviation technicians are ramping up their fight for a fair contract. On March 13, 2025, workers represented by Teamsters Local 856 and 986 will rally at San Francisco International Airport. They demand better wages, stronger job security, and improved working conditions.

Meanwhile, tensions continue to rise over United Airlines’ actions. Despite earning $4 billion in profits last year, the company has stalled contract negotiations. Furthermore, it has outsourced critical maintenance work to China and South America. As a result, aviation safety is at risk, and American jobs are disappearing.

Notably, Teamsters represent nearly 10,000 skilled technicians who play a vital role in airline safety. However, United Airlines keeps offering proposals that workers find unacceptable. Consequently, employees are pushing for higher pay, better healthcare, and a firm commitment to keeping maintenance jobs in the U.S.

Because of these issues, the rally will take place at the United Airlines Tech Ops Base in San Francisco. Workers will carry signs reading, “This Offer Won’t Fly!” and distribute leaflets to raise awareness. Ultimately, their goal is to pressure United Airlines into agreeing to a contract that values its workforce.

At the same time, industry experts warn that outsourcing maintenance work can compromise safety. Critics argue that shifting essential tasks overseas prioritizes cost-cutting over passenger security. Since United Airlines is the world’s second-largest airline, its labor policies are under intense scrutiny.

Clearly, workers believe a strong contract benefits both employees and passengers. By ensuring fair wages and job stability, United Airlines can maintain a highly skilled workforce dedicated to aircraft safety. Thus, the Teamsters’ rally highlights growing unrest and the urgent need for a fair agreement.

With negotiations stalled, employees refuse to stay silent. Instead, they are taking action to secure a contract that reflects their skills, dedication, and contributions to United Airlines’ success.
