In response to heightened security concerns in the Middle East, major airlines United Airlines and Delta Airlines have announced the suspension of their daily flights to and from Israel. The decision comes following the recent assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran, with Iran attributing the act to Israel and implicating the United States as well.
United Airlines, which had only recently resumed direct flights between the U.S. and Tel Aviv in June, stated that they are halting their Tel Aviv service temporarily for security reasons, emphasizing the paramount importance of customer and crew safety in their decision-making process. Delta Airlines also confirmed the suspension of flights between New York’s JFK International Airport and Tel Aviv until further notice, citing ongoing conflict in the region as the primary reason for the pause.
Keeping a vigilant eye on the security landscape, Delta reassured passengers that they are constantly evaluating the situation and will provide updates as necessary based on security guidance and intelligence reports. Additionally, a travel waiver has been issued for customers with bookings to or from TLV before August 14, 2024, allowing for flexibility in travel plans during this uncertain period.
On the other hand, British Airways has affirmed that it continues operations to and from Tel Aviv without canceling any flights at present. However, in the event of flight cancellations or significant delays, passengers are entitled to prompt refunds as stipulated by the U.S. Department of Transportation, ensuring customer protection and financial recourse in such circumstances.
