Greater Bay Airlines has expanded its network to Japan, now serving Sendai as its fifth destination. This follows the recent launch of the Tokushima route. Initially a seasonal charter, the new regular route operates four times a week, offering more flexibility and convenience for travelers. Now, passengers can easily reach Sendai without relying on Shinkansen trains or connecting flights from major cities like Tokyo and Osaka.
The first flight to Sendai took off with a special ceremony at Sendai International Airport. Key local officials attended the event, celebrating the milestone. As part of the celebration, all passengers aboard the inaugural flight received a commemorative souvenir pack.
Sendai, the capital of Miyagi Prefecture, is a vibrant city in northeastern Japan. It is famous for its samurai history, with landmarks like Zuihoden, the mausoleum of the feudal lord Date Masamune. Additionally, visitors can explore the Zao Fox Village, where foxes roam freely in a natural habitat. These attractions make Sendai a unique and appealing destination for tourists.
As a budget airline, Greater Bay Airlines, based in Hong Kong, started its scheduled services in July 2022. With a fleet of eight Boeing 737-800 aircraft, the airline connects Hong Kong to multiple destinations, including Bangkok, Taipei, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, Yonago, Tokushima, Sendai, Manila, Zhoushan, and Huangshan. Moreover, the airline will introduce flights to Yichang in Hubei Province starting December 17, 2024.
