KLM canceled more than ninety flights on Saturday as Storm Amy disrupted air travel across Europe. The storm, which developed after Hurricane Humberto, brought powerful gusts near 100 km/h and forced widespread cancellations. Therefore, passengers in Amsterdam, Dublin, Berlin, Luxembourg, and other cities experienced major delays and disrupted travel plans.
Because the storm intensified overnight, Schiphol Airport quickly became the center of disruption. By Saturday morning, dozens of departures and arrivals were already canceled. Consequently, passengers faced uncertainty as new cancellations spread throughout the day. Moreover, travelers across key European routes struggled to adjust their journeys with limited alternatives.
KLM prioritized passenger safety by removing vulnerable flights from its schedule. However, this strategy did not prevent major delays. Many travelers waited long hours inside crowded terminals, while others searched desperately for alternative options. In addition, the airline’s staff worked around the clock to rebook passengers, but the storm created overwhelming demand.
Storm Amy also disrupted several long-haul services. For instance, flights between Amsterdam and Houston were among those canceled. As a result, thousands of passengers faced broken connections and extended waits. Meanwhile, meteorologists extended weather warnings, which confirmed that travel disruptions would continue beyond Saturday.
Although KLM promised rebooking and refunds, passengers still encountered difficulties. Since limited seats were available, queues for assistance stretched longer than usual. Furthermore, weather alerts remained active across the Netherlands, ensuring further instability in the airline’s network.
Ultimately, the storm revealed how fast extreme weather can affect European air travel. Therefore, KLM urged passengers to monitor updates online and prepare for changes. With strong winds persisting, the airline expected more cancellations, delays, and traveler frustration.
