Why British Airways Is Cutting Routes – A Hidden Problem With Boeing’s Engines

British Airways faces significant disruptions to its long-haul network due to ongoing engine supply issues. Problems with the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines on its Boeing 787 fleet have forced the airline to make critical adjustments. These changes include cutting routes and modifying schedules to ensure reliability for passengers.

Flights from London Heathrow to Abu Dhabi will no longer operate between March 30 and October 25, 2025. British Airways recommends customers switch to flights with partner airlines, such as Etihad Airways, for travel to Abu Dhabi. Alternatively, passengers can opt for flights to Dubai or Doha, as the airline strengthens its connections to these popular destinations.

Initially, British Airways canceled its Bahrain route entirely for 2025. However, the airline reversed this decision and reinstated limited flights between London and Bahrain. Starting March 2025, British Airways plans three weekly flights on this route, significantly reduced from the daily schedule in 2024. Meanwhile, the airline confirmed it would suspend flights to Kuwait for most of 2025, with a brief operation period in early 2025.

The carrier also postponed its plans to launch flights to Kuala Lumpur until April 2025. Other adjustments include changes to flights between London Heathrow and Dallas-Fort/Worth, as well as to Delhi. While British Airways initially planned to increase its Delhi services, it will now maintain its existing double-daily schedule in 2025. During the summer, the airline will offer 11 weekly flights instead of three daily flights as planned earlier.

To address these disruptions, British Airways is transitioning to a different engine supplier. By selecting GE Aerospace GEnx engines for its Boeing 787 aircraft, the airline aims to improve reliability and minimize future delays. These changes reflect British Airways’ commitment to maintaining service quality despite ongoing challenges.
