Wizz Air leads the way in sustainable aviation within the low-cost sector. It stands out in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region as one of the most carbon-efficient airlines. In the 2024 fiscal year, it achieved an impressive 52 grams of carbon emissions per revenue passenger kilometer (RPK), making it a leader in Europe and globally.
On April 22, 2025, Earth Day, Wizz Air announced its next big step toward sustainability. The airline set a goal to cut carbon intensity by 25% by 2030, aligning with international climate goals. This move will continue to drive the airline’s sustainability efforts into the future.
The airline’s strategy centers on fleet upgrades, accountability, and cleaner fuels. Wizz Air is replacing older planes with fuel-efficient Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft, reducing emissions and fuel usage. The airline has also focused on transparency, recently receiving recognition for its carbon reduction achievements. This reinforces its message that operational excellence and eco-efficiency can go hand in hand.
Looking ahead, Wizz Air plans to power 10% of its flights with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) by 2030. The airline is partnering with SAF producers to help expand availability and lower costs, positioning itself as a leader in low-emission fuel alternatives. Though hydrogen propulsion faces challenges, Wizz Air remains focused on scaling proven solutions with government support.
Wizz Air is committed to pushing the limits of what’s possible. Through smart investments in cleaner technology, it shows that even low-cost carriers can drive sustainability in aviation.
